Excellent hockey night in California

Hooray for the Ducks!

Those of you who've read the Irene Kelly books have probably figured out that I'm a hockey fan. I became a fan when I started dating a guy who'd been playing the game from the age of five. First time I went to watch him play, I couldn't tell where he was on the ice, let alone the puck. But it didn't take long for me to fall in love with the game. I was already head over heels for the guy, and a couple of decades later I still am. We're still together and he's still playing hockey.

Now I've seen a local team win the Stanley Cup -- amazing. I wondered if I'd live to see the day when a West Coast team won it, at least until this team started to show it could take on all comers.

And to top it all off, when they played about four hours after the Ducks-Senators game, Tim's hockey team won last night!

I imagine if you expected to get a response to this message, it would come from me. The media tried to get all of Canada behind the Senators, but it didn't work. First of all most Canadians west of Ontario won't support anything coming from Ottawa, the nation's capitol. Neither will the Quebecois or Easterners and Toronto and Ottawa hate each other. So no Canada's team. Plus there were many more Canadians on the Ducks.

I shouldn't have to tell you that Winnipeg played a major role in the Ducks' success. Carlyle and Temmu Selanne played for the Jets and Carlyle coached the Moose that used to beat up your IHL team. And a couple of those Ducks defencemen were with the Moose, but didn't play that much. So most people here were for the Ducks.

I assume Tim is a big fan of Guigere. Does he wear goal equipment that is that big?

As a Detroit Red Wings fan, I find it idifficult to be behind the Ducks, but congratulate them nonetheless.

I am in the middle of reading Kidnapped, and wanted to say that it would have been extremely helpful to have a Fletcher famly tree to help me keep all of them straight! Maybe in the paperback edition?

I enjoy all of your books, and appreciate your efforts on behalf of Elaine Viets.

Looking forward to your next Irene Kelly mystery,

Kent, always good to hear from you, on hockey or other subjects.

Sadly, we've lost our IHL team. So I guess I'll have to be a Moose fan, given the help they've provided the Ducks.

Tim's a defense man, not a goalie (the Quake's goalie is one of the most hilarious maniacs I know), but he is a fan Guigere!

Thanks, Sue!

You Detroit fans have had your years of Stanley Cup celebrations, and I'm sure you will again. Meanwhile, you'll have to let those of us who haven't had it on our coast since Victoria took it 1925 enjoy our moment!

I just had to add a "Yea Ducks!" comment -- there weren't nearly enough for my taste! My son is still replaying the final game over and over on Tivo -- especially the part where the Ducks are celebrating at their goal and you can see him jumping up and down in the stands behind them!

I'm delighted to find you blog, I've read all of your books and I'm lurking in your class too.
